We all know Fort Lauderdale. Stunning waterways, impressive yachts, and a beach that puts others to shame. Ring a bell?
Well, there’s more to visiting Fort Lauderdale than the city itself. Neighboring cities offer unique experiences you won’t always find on the shoreline. We’re talking international events, locally-owned dining, and one-of-a-kind shops.
Located further west, Lauderhill is a cultural hub with noteworthy attractions. It’s no wonder the city was awarded the “All-America City” title; its diverse population showcases how America is a melting pot of different cultures and backgrounds.
Sporting Events that Surprise You
It’s not a secret that Americans love their sports. While football and baseball games air on televisions throughout the United States, Lauderhill brings its own diverse group of sporting events to the American playing field.
And it all happens at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium. This vibrant park is known for its state-of-the-art athletic facilities that house sporting events throughout the year. One in particular draws teams, and crowds, from all over.
You can see international cricket matches at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium. Fans come to watch high-stakes games like West Indies taking on India in the T20I Series.
Don’t know much about cricket? Go to one of these matches, and try something new. You never know -- you may be inspired to join a local cricket team, like the South Florida Cricket League which also plays in Lauderhill.
Central Broward Regional Park Stadium also hosts cultural carnivals, music festivals, and other athletic events. It has plenty of space to be active; visitors can play basketball, tennis, netball, soccer, and more. In addition, they can go to the water park, walk along a nature trail, go fishing, have a picnic, and see public art and design. Visit Lauderhill, and there will be an action-packed day in store.
Restaurants from Around the World
America’s melting pot sure can cook. Why travel around the globe when you can parade around diverse cities like Lauderhill? The sheer amount of cuisines in Lauderhill’s dining scene is enough to make any traveler’s mouth water easily. The only hard part is choosing where to eat first.
If you’re in the mood for Asian food, Tataki Asian Bistro is your place. From sushi boats to Thai noodles to Chinese classics, Tataki has it all. The chefs at Tataki really get creative with their sushi. The “Bahamian Roll” features conch, shrimp, avocado and masago all wrapped with soy paper, while the “Futomaki” includes crab, tamago, asparagus, avocado, cucumber, Japanese pickles, and mango seaweed on the outside. Be adventurous and choose a roll you wouldn’t normally go with. Eat it at the sushi bar, or do as the Japanese do and sit on the floor in the tatami room. No shoes, no chairs -- great service.
The next stop around the world in Lauderhill is Italy. Named for the sauce, Fra Diavolo has been serving classic southern Italian fare, plus some northern specialties, for over 20 years. The owners of Fra Diavolo are a local family who claims their cooking “...is just as good, if not better than grandma used to make.” That’s some statement, but with pasta that’s made in-house by one of Fort Lauderdale’s premier chefs, Diego Cruz, grandma might be put to shame. The elegant setting, combined with the home-cooked menu, makes for a great Italian feast.
More cultural restaurants include Gabose Korean & Japanese, Jean’s Jamaican Restaurant, and the vegetarian Woodland Indian Cuisine. Have your pick, and go back for seconds!
Arts and Culture Set the Stage for Fun
America’s entertainment industry is arguably the best in the world, and Lauderhill’s arts and culture do a great job of making America proud.
The Lauderhill Performing Arts Center has a year-round roster of events that accommodates music, theater, dance, cinema, visual arts, and more. It serves as a hub for community involvement, engagement, and artistic expression, as well as a stage for famous performers from around the country. From America’s Got Talent comedian Preacher Lawson to Broadway tours like West Side Story, you can experience the top-level talent that takes you off your feet.
You can also experience various cultural festivals in Lauderhill. The annual “Jammin’ in the Park and Art Fest” occurs every April at Ilene Lieberman Park. Live acts are performed, art vendors display their services and families dance to the rhythm of the music (jazz, reggae, and more tend to be prominent). Not to mention, the Ilene Lieberman Botanical Gardens are beautiful to stroll through under blue skies as you take in the art and culture around you.
Lauderhill is for Everyone
Whether you’re young, old, big, or small, Lauderhill is an inspiring place to visit. Its diverse community allows you to experience cultures from around the globe, all in proximity to the luxe city life of Fort Lauderdale.
