Pre-pandemic, the airport generated $37.5 billion in economic activity annually and nearly 18,000 direct, local jobs. The Aviation Department, FLL's operator, is a self-supporting agency of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners that does not rely on local tax dollars for operations and capital improvements.

Port Everglades
Port Everglades’ enviable location in the heart of South Florida and the neighboring Caribbean, makes it one of the three busiest cruise homeports in the world, expecting to host some 3.7 million passengers in 2024. On the horizon for the upcoming 2023-2034 busy winter season are new cruise lines, new ships and a new homeport for Disney Cruise Line. In total Port Everglades will host 47 different cruise ships and the Baleária Caribbean ferry from October 2023 through mid-May 2024.
