We are making it easy for your group to volunteer while meeting in Broward.  Assist a naturalist in a local park planting trees, clean up the waterways, donate to women in need, feed the hungry or help build affordable housing.  Take some time to review some of the organizations below and choose to leave a mark and get in a sunny state of mind. 
And we will help offset your carbon footprint too.

Broward County Parks / Beach Cleanup

Broward County Parks and Recreation Division is a nationally accredited recreation agency dedicated to providing a variety of exceptional programs, services, and facilities essential to the quality of life in Broward County while preserving our natural areas. The Broward County Parks and Recreation Division's Volunteer Program offers students, families, individuals, and small and large groups short-term or long-term opportunities to share their time and talents with the community in a wide variety of interesting and valuable experiences. Several volunteer opportunities are available throughout Broward County Parks. No previous experience is necessary, and we are ready to provide training and assistance with any opportunity you choose.

By volunteering, you can:

• Educate the public about the ecology, sensitivity, and importance of South Florida's remaining natural areas.
• Help the environment by volunteering to clear natural areas of trash and invasive plants by participating in Eco-Action Days.
• Develop leadership and customer-service skills necessary when working with others.
• Develop and instill the life skills of sportsmanship, leadership, and team building in young people through our Youth Development Program.
• Assist in organizing and conducting special events while developing stronger ties to the community.
• Develop skills and gain experience useful for a variety of job opportunities.

Volunteering opportunities vary at each park site. We can accommodate a variety of schedules and times. Please call the park of your choice directly or stop by the park office to complete a volunteer application.  For volunteers under 18 years old, parental signatures are required.  Please bring a photo ID to the park when you sign up. Click here for Workday Volunteer Application.  

Mountain Bike Trail Work Volunteer: Assist with ongoing trail maintenance workdays; projects include rebuilding trails, vegetation and erosion control and trail clean up. It is recommended that every trail work volunteer attend an IMBA trail building seminar.
Hours: Workdays are scheduled with Park management. Frequency: Trail maintenance workdays are typically one weekend day per month. Availability: Markham Park and Quiet Waters Park. 

Natural Areas Volunteer: Removal of exotic vegetation and planting of native vegetation.  Duties include:  working on your own or assisting with set up and supervision of work days to remove and restore vegetation. May also include trash removal, cleanups, and similar activities. Hours:  Varies according to facility
Frequency: Usually once a month on Saturdays except during the summer.

Care Resource

The Care Resource volunteer program provides volunteer opportunities in  Broward County.  We offer volunteer opportunities year round for community service, internship, and office-related volunteer opportunities as well as opportunities to volunteer with our special events team. Our special events include  White Party Week,  AIDS Walk Miami,  Holiday Lights & Dining Out for Life. Feeding South Florida

Feeding South Florida is always in need of an extra pair of hands and welcomes your contribution of time. Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and we would not be able to feed the hungry without YOUR help! If you are 16 or older, we have a position for you! We offer a variety of ways for people to volunteer and help those less fortunate in our community. There are volunteer opportunities to fit your interest.

• Warehouse/Salvage Work: Much of what we do at Feeding South Florida depends on volunteer help in the warehouse. Food donated from food drives, supermarkets and other food industry companies needs to be sorted, checked and repackaged. Volunteers process the bulk of the food in salvage creating a constant need for individuals in this department.
• Administrative/ Office Work:Volunteers are utilized in the office for all types of tasks. We are always in need of people with computer and typing skills, and friendly faces to help us with our mailings.

Plan It Green

Visitors, event organizers and attendees can calculate the carbon footprint associated with events and travel and make donations to offset their share of that footprint. Program participants receive a certificate of participation and their funds support local tree planting at Plan It Green designated sites. In addition to offsetting carbon emissions, the Plan It Green program expands urban tree canopy providing more shading and cooling and creating wildlife habitats. For less than $2 per person, the average event can be Plan It Green-certified while achieving local and corporate sustainability objectives and protecting the natural environment against future climate impacts.

Habitat for Humanity

Group Volunteer: A wide variety of faith-based, civic, community and corporate groups choose to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Broward.  One of the many reasons organizations choose to partner with Habitat is to participate in an activity that fosters a lasting impact on our community as a whole.  The Habitat program not only empowers our partner families to provide their children with a safe, stable home environment to improve their lives, it also initiates a significant impact in the revitalization of low income neighborhoods. Through volunteering, group members gain a sense of pride and accomplishment by working together to improve their quality of life of a family in need.  Group sizes range from 5-15 people.  Often, larger groups choose to sponsor a Corporate Workday on the construction site or sponsor a home.  Click here for more information on Corporate Workdays and Home Sponsorship.

• Schedule: Groups are assigned on Tuesday - Saturday from 7:30 AM -12:30 PM
  Note:  Extended workdays are available for Home Sponsors and Corporate Workday Sponsors
• Atmosphere: Team-work is key. Groups work together to complete a wide variety of tasks.  Often groups work alongside individual volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Typical tasks may include shingling, landscaping, trussing, and interior/exterior painting. 
• Sign-up Process: To schedule a group volunteer day, please complete a group application form.  In most cases, groups are scheduled 2-3 months in advance. FYI: There is currently a minimum of a 6 month backlog on groups. We are currently only scheduling Sponsors and Corporate Workdays. Sorry for the inconvenience. See the link above for information regarding Corporate Workdays. Groups are scheduled based on order of applications received. Note: Corporate Workday and Home Sponsors are given priority.

Marine Industries Association of South Florida

For information directly related to the cleanup of Broward County's canals and waterways, visit waterwaycleanup.org.  The Annual Waterway Cleanup in March is this county's largest environmental event and in 2007 more than 3,000 volunteers worked at 33 waterfront locations and on Intracoastal floating site to clean nearly 67 tons trash and debris from Broward's 300 miles of waterways, canals and shorelines. 2312 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316
