So, what brings you to the picture-perfect City of Weston? You might like to punctuate your wild Everglades adventures with a little high-end spa pampering. Perhaps you’re here for Weston’s golf scene and luxury accommodations. And the dining! How did so much delicious international cuisine find its way to this country club-style community? It doesn’t matter; just enjoy it and everything else that Weston has to offer, from parks to shopping to nightlife.
As the name suggests, Weston is located on the western end of Greater Fort Lauderdale, with the Florida Everglades — and its unforgettable sunsets — on the left. Spanning 1.5 million acres, Florida Everglades National Park is no ordinary wetlands preserve. It is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. It’s the only place in the world where you could spot both alligators and crocodiles. It’s also a habitat for manatees, the endangered Florida Panther and beautiful water birds.
You’ll find several airboat tour operators in the area who will take you deep into the “River of Grass.” Ride the Wind will take your small group on a private tour for one, two or three hours. You can even get behind the wheel and pilot. At Sawgrass Recreation Park, in addition to private and general admission airboat tours, you can browse the reptile and rescued wildlife exhibits. And be sure to wave to Cannibal, their 1,000-pound alligator.
When you’re whipping through the water on an airboat, you’ll never want to stop. But when you do, you get to experience the glassy stillness of the water and the sights and sounds of this one-of-a-kind ecosystem, because you haven’t lived until you’ve experienced the suspense of watching a blue heron swallow a large fish whole.
You can enjoy Weston’s outdoors on dry land as well. Fourteen park and recreational facilities include Weston Regional Park. The 102-acre park’s amenities include baseball and soccer fields, sand volleyball, roller hockey rink and skate park, picnic areas, basketball courts and canopied playgrounds, plus Wi-Fi and solar charging stations.
At GeckoParX, families will find an incredible 40,000-square-foot indoor playground with trampolines, ropes courses, ninja course, arcade and VR games, rock walls, and more. The little kids can enjoy the soft play area. Meanwhile the bigger kids can joust safely like an American gladiator. Bring kids from 5-12 years old for their own Friday and Saturday night party with live DJ.
Bonaventure Golf Club invites you to enjoy 18 holes of championship golf on this resort-style public course designed by architect Joe Lee. Its classic Florida layout features mature palms and hardwoods, challenging water hazards and expansive bunkers. Bonaventure has been nicknamed the “Cascade Course” because of its signature, picturesque waterfall on hole 3. Although, some prefer the 19th Hole, serving good food and good times as well as Sunday Brunch.
Dining could be a sport in Weston. Go for the gold at your choice of delicious restaurants serving Italian, Asian, Latin, seafood and burgers. Acquolina serves authentic Southern Italian cuisine in a casually elegant setting with a waterfront patio. Tarantella Ristorante & Pizzeria is a beloved spot for brick oven pizza as well as traditional and innovative Italian dishes. La Perla Seafood Bar & Grill features a sumptuous menu of Peruvian favorites to refresh your senses. Meanwhile, temptation is on the menu at Bocas House, where Latin comfort food and dessert go over the top, with towering milkshake creations that are layered with cake, brownie, dulce de leche, Nutella and more.
After all this excitement, enjoy a retreat that feels catered to you. Bonaventure Resort & Spa is an oasis of modern accommodations, sparkling pools and tropical waterfalls on 23 acres. Elegant estate-style rooms and suites feature plush bedding and marble bathrooms. Meanwhile, the resort’s 45,000-square-foot aLaya Spa is outfitted for premium pampering with a menu of sublime treatments, a Zen garden and more. At Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Weston, you’re invited to unwind in cozy luxury. Relaxing guestrooms feature neutral colors and contemporary décor, and amenities include an outdoor pool, fitness center, onsite restaurant and free high-speed Internet.
