Memorial Day

Memorial Day falls on the last Monday of May and signals the start of summer. But most importantly, the holiday honors American heroes who gave their lives to protect the nation’s freedoms while serving in the U.S. military.

From Memorial Day events to a weekend full of American cuisine, beach time, and locally-crafted beer, Greater Fort Lauderdale has it all to honor and celebrate this annual holiday.

Celebrate…on the Beach or at the Pool

Celebrate and honor the holiday weekend with loved ones on the beach or a rooftop pool.

With delicious beachfront restaurants, a fishing pier, and scuba diving opportunities, spend a day or the entire weekend on the beach in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Over in Hollywood Beach, enjoy versatile restaurants, shops, and outdoor activities along its scenic Broadwalk. And in Fort Lauderdale, explore the beachfront promenade on a bike, roller skates, or segway, and enjoy watersports from paddleboarding to fishing and jetskiing.

Some resorts offer fun in the sun in the form of rooftop pools with day-long DJ beats, ocean views, fun cocktails, and pool floats.

After a sun-soaked day, rest up at a hotel, resort, or a unique boutique, and do it all over again the next day.

At a Brewery

It doesn’t get more Americana than gathering around the bar or picnic table with a beer in hand.

Check out area breweries for an unforgettable experience filled with locally-crafted beer, live music, delicious cuisine, and game nights, including trivia. Many breweries welcome pets and children.

Other brew-filled options include a pub crawl with Cycle Party, a party boat rental, or an ax-throwing lounge. Check out our list of 26 hidden gems for more.

At an All-American Restaurant

In Greater Fort Lauderdale, there are countless restaurants serving all-American dishes, from grilled burgers to homemade ice cream sundaes.

Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlour Restaurant has been a Dania Beach staple since 1956, serving mile-long hot dogs, huge burgers, and homemade sweets, including ice cream floats, milkshakes, and sundaes, like the Original Kitchen Sink.
