What to do During a Layover
Back to Top of ListIf you score a layover in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, consider yourself lucky. Greater Fort Lauderdale offers a wealth of activities, miles of pristine beaches, amazing shopping, and an excellent culinary scene waiting to be explored.
If you only have a few hours to kill, consider ordering a ride and heading off to Fort Lauderdale beach to walk the sandy shores, or visit Las Olas Boulevard to peruse a few shops and spend the afternoon dining at nearby hotspots.
Of course, there are plenty of museums to stop by as well, like the historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens on a 35-acre estate, the Museum of Discovery and Science, Mad Arts, and NSU Art Museum. The latter boasts a remarkable collection that includes significant Latin American and contemporary art, as well as the largest holdings of works by William Glackens and the most extensive collection of CoBrA artwork in any U.S. museum.
If you’re staying for the day or overnight, you’ll have more time to explore. Start by getting dropped off downtown, where you can stroll along the riverfront and stop at The House on the River for coffee, pastries, or lunch. Then grab the Water Taxi and enjoy a stress-free way to explore the city on water, hopping on and off at different locales throughout town.
Looking for some fun? Head to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood to get an up-close look at the iconic Guitar Hotel, which lights up the sky with its dazzling nightly light shows. End the evening with an unforgettable dinner at Council Oak Steaks & Seafood or Japanese favorite Kuro.
If time permits, be sure to stop by a handful of other towns that make up our slice of paradise, including Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach to the north and Dania Beach to the south for all things fun in the sun, shopping, great eats, and amazing memories.
