Chef Sharon Allen’s vegan soul food pop-up concept for community events, music festivals, and farmers markets, Blue Tree Café now has a brick-and-mortar home in Sistrunk. Allen teamed up with her daughter, Nika King, an actress and vegan influencer, to launch the concept, which also supports other local black and brown plant-based chefs. Jamaican-born Barbara McKenzie is a soil sister on a mission to teach people to eat right, straight from the earth, whether in person, at Mack’s Farm in Davie, or remotely from her @macks.farm Instagram account. At her farm, organic, in-season produce is regularly harvested, but there are more reasons to visit than just shopping for local produce. Every Tuesday, Mack’s Farm hosts two-hour Tea, Health, and Wellness sessions (aka Tea Tuesdays) for both morning and night sessions, yoga classes on Thursdays, and a marketplace on Saturdays.
